Our favourite restaurants in Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront

If you’re visiting Cape Town then it’s certain you’ll pay a visit to the V&A Waterfront. People love the experience not only for the shopping but also for the scenic waterfront area with its working harbour, vibrant happenings and fine restaurants.

Three of these V&A Waterfront restaurants – Balducci, Belthazar and Gibson’s – are firm favourites of ours, and we recommend them to all our guests. Why do we like them? Well, their ambiance is superb, their food is amazing, and they have an energy and freshness that shows us they really care about the whole dining and entertainment experience.

Balducci

Balducci offers simple, everyday home cooked Italian dishes in a trendy and stylish setting (see featured image above). It is one of the true classics of the Waterfront and is frequented by people from all walks of life. Balducci aims to provide a memorable experience by redefining the essence of good, home cooked food and continually upping the standards with its understated elegance, stunning views and gracious service. And it’s not only about Italian food – a highlight of Balducci’s is its Asian tapas, noodle and sushi bar.

Belthazar

The vision for Belthazar was to create the largest “wine by the glass” wine bar in the world. Experienced sommeliers expertly serve over 200 of the Cape’s finest wines by the glass and advise customers on a wine list with up to 600 fine wines and sought-after rare varieties. The menu focuses on grills and seafood, and has won Belthazar several awards including “Best steakhouse in South Africa” and “Best restaurant on the Waterfront”.

Gibson’s

Right next door to Belthazar you’ll find Gibson’s, a cool and trendy burger joint, specialising in gourmet burgers, ribs and handspun ‘wow’ shakes. Gibson’s is famous for its “Ultimate Burger”, developed after research trips to some of the burger capitals of the world. The ambiance is relaxed yet stylish, with the decor and mellow jazz in the background transporting patrons to 1940s New York.

How to find them

Belthazar and Gibson’s are located on the lower level of the mall overlooking the section of harbour where popular yacht cruises like the Jolly Roger and Tigress are launched from. Balducci is a short walk away, near the Waterfront Clock Tower.
